Douglas J. Eboch's Diary of doing the festival circuit with his short film The 24 Year-Old Virgin

We're beginning our festival application process with the biggest American festival, Sundance. The deadline is only days away. Although we still have a little work to do on the film (a final mix and color timing), we have a pretty good VHS version to submit. We're starting with Sundance partly because of the timing, but also because acceptance or rejection from there may influence our plan for other festivals. Truth be told, we've been so busy finishing the film, we haven't had time to make much of a plan, but certainly applying to Sundance would be part of it. Also, should we get accepted to Sundance, we would most likely make that our World Premiere.

We've been fortunate to line up some good publicity already. Our two leading actresses, Jamie Elle Mann and Hayden Elizabeth, will be featured in V-Twin magazine doing interviews about the film. I don't know that the magazine's audience is the same one that goes to festivals, but we can clip the articles for our press kits.

Before we start screening at festivals, we hope to do a 35mm transfer. The HD looks great on a monitor, but in my experience the video projection at festivals is often extremely questionable. HD transfers beautifully to 35, and we shot at 24 fps to make the process even smoother. The only downside is cost. Right now I'm trying to raise the money to do the transfer. In any case, we won't need to do that until we get accepted to a festival.
